While I disagree with Dreher’s underlying premise that Original Sin makes humans more inherently evil than good, I strongly agree with many of the facets of the “crunchy conservative” lifestyle he describes. Dreher calls for a return to conservation of faith, family, culture, and land that defies our current political party schema. This book was uplifting in that it highlights people who are choosing to live simply and faithfully against the mainstream and are happier for it, and I found several ideas for how to live more “crunchily” myself. The book is very well written and I laughed out loud more than once reading it, even though some of his political rhetoric was a little strong for my tastes. The best thing I think I got from it was a reading list on everything from architecture to agriculture and cooking, which I’m really looking forward to tackling. This is worth the rad, or at least the quick skim.
